Trust me when I say that I have been there when you wonder why your homemade bowls don’t come out the same as when you buy one from your local health food place.
If you are like me you’d probably blame it on your blender, skills, or even the random portion size of the fruit you chose. Although it may be true that too much water or milk was added to the mix… I am glad you are here to read the top tips I have learned over my YEARS of making smoothie bowls, and having them come out just right every time!
Tip #1 Start using FROZEN fruit!
The minute I realized that adding fruit that was frozen to my smoothie bowl bases, I have never looked back. If your goal is acquire a more thick paste as the base of your delicious bowl, start using frozen fruit!
Total game changer. It reduces the amount of bubbles that appear AND requires the use of less ice. Which will make the base less watered down and more flavorful!
Tip # 2 Pour less liquid and build as you need.
It is almost impossible to not pour too much water, coconut water, almond milk, orange or apple juice, or any of sort into your blender. But any is possible when it comes to healthy food!
The trick to creating a base that is has the consistency of a paste is to add less liquid. Forget filling it to the “max. cap” line…. literally start off with about 1/8th of whatever liquid you choose. remember you can build more as you go, but can’t necessarily take away once its been added. I know it can get a little frustrating having to go back and forward with your blender and having to deal with a clumpy mix at first. But just have patience… it’ll be worth it at the end.
Tip # 3 Get creative!
My bowls started tasting the best once I started experiencing with different combinations of fruit. Not ganna lie, I am one to stick with a recipe combo that just taste so good that I will have for MONTHS and just try to not get tried of it. Repeating the same type of ingredients over and over again and not even make an effort into finding another.
Although you may be satisfied with what have, it can end up being a dangerous cycle my friend.
Of course there will be months when you over power the mix with lets say ginger for example. I want to warn you… don’t get upset. Instead laugh about. Making good recipes all comes with trial and error. You didn’t fail! You just found one way that did not work out so well and are actually one step closer to finding out what will.
